DevBridge — Country-Aware Developer Opportunities & Verified Global Feed

Open-source, country-aware platform unifying fragmented developer events, hackathons, scholarships, and opportunities into a single verified feed.

PRIMARY CIVIC OBJECTIVE

Eliminate information fragmentation so developers—especially in underrepresented regions—never miss verified hackathons, conferences, scholarships, jobs, and open-source programs.

01 // PROBLEM STATEMENT & ECOSYSTEM NEED

The Root Challenge

Developer opportunities are scattered across unsearchable WhatsApp groups, noisy LinkedIn algorithms, isolated Discord servers, and university emails. Developers in underrepresented regions miss out on life-changing global hackathons, scholarships, and open-source fellowships simply because they are not inside the right informal group chats.

REGIONAL & ECOSYSTEM CONTEXT

In Sri Lanka and South Asia, student developers frequently discover premier hackathons, Google Summer of Code, or IEEE fellowships 48 hours after deadlines pass. Fragmented WhatsApp channels prevent students in regional universities from accessing the same opportunities available to students in Colombo or Kandy.

Country-Aware Deadline Push Notifications

Structural Root Causes:

  • Information silos: opportunities circulate in closed WhatsApp chats and private university email lists
  • Algorithm fatigue: LinkedIn and X prioritize engagement clicks rather than country-specific deadlines and eligibility
  • Unverified submissions & spam: informal social channels lack deadline tracking, verification, or duplicate detection
  • Regional exclusion: engineers outside major metropolitan hubs lack visibility into global grants and remote fellowships
02 // TARGET CONTRIBUTORS & BENEFICIARIES

Target Community & Beneficiaries

Regional Student Developers

Undergraduates seeking hackathons, internships, scholarships, and open-source programs to build careers.

PRIMARY PAIN POINTS:
  • Missing deadlines due to fragmented WhatsApp forwards
  • Inability to filter opportunities applicable to their country
Community Organizers & NGOs

Tech community leaders and meetups looking to broadcast events to a verified, country-specific developer audience.

PRIMARY PAIN POINTS:
  • Low attendance due to platform noise
  • Manual promotion across a dozen fragmented channels
Platform Admin & Reviewers

Maintainers curating and verifying community submissions to prevent fraud and duplicates.

PRIMARY PAIN POINTS:
  • Spam submissions and fake events
  • Lack of audit logging for review decisions
Accessibility & Inclusion Focus: Zero-latency instant search, lightweight mobile layout, country toggle with auto-detection fallback, and RSS / Web Push notification compatibility.
03 // CIVIC-TECH PLATFORM DESIGN

The Proposed Solution & Workflow

A unified open-source platform that accepts community event submissions, screens them through an admin approval dashboard, delivers a country-aware verified feed, sends real-time opportunity notifications, and maintains a public developer directory.

Operational Model & Governance

Community-submitted and machine-screened events require human admin verification before publishing. Strict RLS ensures transparency, and a stretch AI service conducts spam scoring and fuzzy duplicate detection.

Citizen Engagement Lifecycle

1. Contributor submits opportunity with title, date, country, URL, and category tags
2. Admin approval dashboard reviews pending items, checks for duplicates, and approves with audit log
3. Users in matching countries receive in-app real-time alerts for relevant opportunities
4. Developers browse directory, connect with peers, and collaborate on hackathon submissions

Key Civic-Tech Innovations

✓ Country-Aware Intelligent Feed: Automatically surfaces locally eligible hackathons, conferences, and fellowships
✓ Admin Verification Queue: Dual-layer anti-spam workflow guaranteeing that zero fraudulent or broken-link events pollute the feed
✓ Unified Opportunity Board: Harmonizes events, jobs, scholarships, CFPs, and open-source programs in one search index
04 // ARCHITECTURE & LOW-BANDWIDTH SPECS

Architecture & Engineering Approach

Built on React, Vite, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui on the frontend; Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Realtime, Edge Functions, Storage) on the backend; and an optional Python + FastAPI microservice with Playwright and scikit-learn for RSS scraping, duplicate detection, and spam scoring.

PRODUCTION TECH STACK
ReactViteTypeScriptTailwind CSSshadcn/uiSupabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Realtime, Edge Functions)PythonFastAPIPlaywrightscikit-learn
OFFLINE-FIRST STRATEGY

Cached country feeds and bookmarked deadlines stored in client IndexedDB; full access to saved events during network disruptions.

BANDWIDTH OPTIMIZATION

Normalized database queries; paginated opportunity feeds; Brotli compressed API payloads under 40KB.

TRILINGUAL I18N

Trilingual UI localization strings; language tags on events allowing filtering by language of instruction.

CITIZEN DATA PRIVACY

Strict Supabase RLS policies: user contact details shielded; profiles provide granular country privacy toggles.

Operational Assumptions & Governance Ethics

DevBridge enforces an explicit human-in-the-loop review policy: AI agents never auto-publish. All submissions must be verified by human admins. Predatory paid course spam and LinkedIn scraping are strictly prohibited.

Critical Assumptions:
  • Tech event organizers and developers will submit opportunities once the platform is seeded
  • Admins adhere to the <48h review turnaround SLA to maintain feed freshness
Institutional Dependencies:
  • Supabase Realtime service stability for push notifications
  • Public API / RSS feed compliance with terms of service for optional scraper stretch
